This is a test. For the next four months, your practice will be conducting a test of the CMS – Functional Limitation Reporting. Perhaps for the first time, you and every PT, OT or SLP in your practice will be required to submit specific data on patients’ functional reporting limitations with non-payable G Codes and modifiers on claims forms.
This new mandate stems from the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2012 and requires the following patient information:
• Patient condition
• Therapy services furnished
• Patient functional changes over the course of care
• Clinical outcomes achieved
This data will be utilized to determine reforms to outpatient therapy services payments in the future. So your participation is critical.
In fact, if your practice does not comply by July 1st, your claims will not get paid. Your income will be drastically reduced as you work feverishly to train everyone and get on board. As the days tick by and the July 1st deadline looms closer and closer, adapting to this new way of business may start to feel like an emergency.
